My Trip to the Women's Beer Forum (4/17) - Extra-Credit

Wednesdays are usually my long days. I have a couple of classes and then two meetings for some of
my extra-curriculars. I finished around 8:15 PM on that fateful Wednesday, April 17th. I technically was done earlier than I normally am which was perfect because I was just in time for the Women’s Beer Forum at the Eagle Rock Brewery. As I’ve said before, beer isn’t my favorite, but I was looking forward to the event! So, I called my Uber to the address that was listed on their website, 3001 Delay Drive, and was on my merry way.

The Uber was pretty pricy, I’m not going to lie. One way, it was $20.06, and it was a journey to get there. It was about a 30-minute drive because of some traffic. But alas, I arrived! The parking lot was almost empty, so I wasn’t sure if I was at the right location. After going through the entrance, I saw some Women’s Beer Forum flyers and made my way inside the bar area. I liked the room, it had a pinball machine, the lights were dim, so it gave off a warm, moody type vibe. The room was empty though, excluding the bartender, there were about three other people there.

I still felt like I was at the right place though. I thought that maybe the event was more passive than it is active. I approached the bartender and asked for a menu. I perused the menu and honestly, nothing really appealed to me, so I asked if there were additional options with it being the Women’s Beer Forum. That’s when he broke the news…I was in the wrong place. He told me that the event was actually about an 8-minute drive away. “Oh lovely”, I thought to myself.

The bartender was a very kind man (may I add a handsome one too) and he felt bad, so he gave me a free 8 oz. of any beer that I wanted. I told him that I wasn’t much of a beer drinker and that I liked sweeter drinks aside from vodka. He said, “I know something that’s perfect for you” and went to the dispenser. I tasted it, and he was right, it was great! I finished it quickly for two reasons – 1. I liked it and 2. I wanted to head out as soon as possible so I can get to the other location in time for the event. Once I was done, I thanked him and left to call my Uber. Luckily, I didn’t have a long wait, but it wasn’t the cheapest ride. This Uber was $8.69.

It was a 10-minute drive, so it wasn’t a bad one necessarily, but it did mean that I was missing more of the event. I made it to the location though and entered. Again, there weren’t many people inside. So, I went up to the bar and asked the bartender if I was at the right location. She told me that it was the next door over and she asked me if I had a ticket since the event was sold out. “Oh no, I came all this way and I can’t even go to the event,” I said. I also told her that the website had the wrong location, so I’ve been kind of through the wringer in order to make this event. She told me to hold on and she proceeded to make a phone call next door and explained my situation. The bartender came back with some good news: the individuals in charge of the Women’s Beer Forum are cool with letting me inside…for free! I was so thankful and expressed my gratitude. She then walked me over and I was let in into the event.

It was in a warehouse type of place but I still liked the ambiance. Since it was 9:30 PM, there weren’t a ton of people there but there was a good deal of chatting going on. I’m sure the forum was quite a social event earlier in the evening when more people were there. Also, even though there weren’t many people there, the majority of them were women and I really appreciated that. I didn’t have any beer, but I did chat with a couple of people. I mostly told everyone about the night I had, it honestly made for a great story. Even though it was SUCH a hassle for me to get there, I really liked the event and space it provided for people to interact with one another and indulge in some beer while they’re at it.
