Extra-Credit IPA Fest Post

Last week, I went to the Los Angeles IPA Fest at Mohawk Bend and it definitely wasn’t what I expected it to be at all. When envisioning the IPA Fest and seeing that it was close to Echo Park, I was imagining this event to be held outside. I also mentally pictured booths with beer dispensers that would be populated throughout the park. However, when I arrived at Mohawk Bend, I saw this was not the case. Rather than the event being a festival held outside, it was a normal restaurant and was indoors. In fact, the ambiance was quite casual, some individuals were there for the actual IPA Fest and others were there simply to eat Mohawk Bend's food. However, with all this being said, I will say that the restaurant was very nice; its interior was incredible and I completely loved the ambiance. However, because the weather was quite lovely outside, I decided to dine on the restaurant's patio next to the fireplace.

I was excited to try the beer, but also apprehensive at the same. To be completely honest, I absolutely hate beer. The taste of beer is extremely bitter to me and it never fails that after I drink it, I make a face that demonstrates strong disapproval. Additionally, I’m not super enthralled by beer’s carbonation due to its fermentation process. Therefore, while looking at the menu, I was intentional in finding a beer that wasn’t too expensive (since I didn’t want to have much too begin with) and I decided to go with 16 oz. of the “You Must Be Daddy” beer.

Not surprising in any way at all, but I did not like the “You Must Be Daddy”. The taste was not only bitter, but it was also sweet as well, which wasn’t necessarily helpful to its taste. “You Must Be Daddy” actually slightly reminded me of pickle juice. Although I didn't want to waste the beer or my money, I couldn’t finish it. The taste just didn't do it for me, and I didn’t want to force myself to drink solely because of my monetary contribution. Therefore, I ended my visit with some tasty sweet potato fries that I thoroughly enjoyed instead. For the future, I am not necessarily opposed to going to another IPA Fest but I do want to go with friends and friends that actually enjoy beer. Maybe, in this case, I can hopefully select a better tasting beer and have a better experience.
